ORGANISATION

The United Kingdom is divided into six Air Training Corps regions - each commanded by a group captain who is a retired Royal Air Force officer. These regions are divided into wings, which cover one or more counties. These forty wings are responsible for over nine hundred squadrons and detached flights. The corps is also the largest operating authority of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme. It has its own training centres at Windermere in the Lake District and Llanbeder in North Wales where cadets and staff can attended week long courses throughout the year. In addition, the corps can organise special courses in parachuting, outward bound, skiing, offshore sailing and microlighting. Each squadron has a supporting civilian committee
